Movies and more
One of the most consistent events still is the weekly presented Videoteca del Sur: Every Tuesday different Central American movies are shown to the public for free. All in all, over 50 movies were presented last year this way.
Additionally movie nights were organized in cooperation with international embassies and other cultural organizations: Taiwanese movies about different issues in February, the presentation of the french movie “Solidarité” in March and a festival of film-lets in cooperation with pupils of various schools in Granada and under the patronage of „Instituto Nicaragüense de Cultura Hispánica” and the „Embajada de España” (AECID) in April.
In May 2010 the 3-days movie event of the European Cinema took place in cooperation with the European delegation. “The Festival of the German Cinema” was presented during 4 days under the patronage of „Initiativa Cultural Alemana Nicaragüense”.
In the following months, various kinds of documentations were presented, for example of the Nicaraguan filmmaker Rossana Lacayo, Japanese animated movies and film-lets about the rights of children.
Lasting 3 days, the cinema festival “El valor de nuestra tierra” initiated of „Initiativa Cultural Alemana Nicaragüense” took place in 5 different cities in Nicaragua: Various movies and film-lets concerning about important issues like environment, recycling and protection of the ground water were shown.
In the year 2010, the amount and the variety of the cinema program of the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos were even higher than in the previous years. This shows the importance of this part of the cultural offer.
Festival of Poetry
The foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos plays a significant role in this international festival in Granada. In the meantime, the Festival of Poetry became one of the most important platforms for the cultural development in Nicaragua.
It took place in different locations in Granada, from 14th till the 19th February 2010 : Casa de los Tres Mundos and Centro Cultural Antiguo Convento de San Francisco were one of the most important places. Public locations and private rooms were as well used for the realization of this event.
International poets could read their literature in their mother tongue and in case of poems or texts in foreign languages, the acts were traduced in Spanish so that the audience could enjoy all acts of all poets.
The participants enjoyed the Nicaraguan folklore dances, the language and art and this way, became ambassadors of the Nicaraguan culture in their home country.
Musical events
Most of the musical events took place in December, because during this time the Escuela de Música of the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos organizes a lot of events, some together with the orchestra “Compañía Artística” of the Escuela de Música. In 2010, the orchestra “Compañía Artística” again participated in an impressive presentation together with other Nicaraguan orchestras.
Additionally, Granada received the honor of a conjoint concert of Katia and Salvador Cardenal, which regrettably was the last performance of the singer Salvador Cardenal in Granada.
From February till June, the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos had the honor to welcome the following musicians and ensembles: The orchestras “Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil de Nicaragua”, “Orquesta del Conservatorio Bautista de la Universidad Politécnica (UPOLI)” and “Orquesta Sinfónica de Nicaragua”, the artists Luis and Carlos Mejía Godoy, musicians for the international Nicaraguan guitar festival “Corazón de América”, the solo concert of the interpreter Manuel Mejía and concerts of the musician Javner Alampana “Melodías para recordar” and of the quintet „Nica-Brass”.
In August, a concert of the German Guitar Orchestra took place. In the same month, the orchestra „Orquesta Juvenil de Nicaragua Armando Morales Barrillas” performed at a concert and different national and international musicians presented themselves in the event “Michelada musical”, organized from the french singer Stephane Leborgne, who also performed together with the artists Eduardo Araica and Gabriel Fonseca.
The musical highlight of October was the incomparable performance of the jazz group “Sizhukong” from Taiwan: A fusion of the traditional Chinese music and international rhythm.
The ecological concert “Mono Stereo” was organized by the Nicaraguan singer Mario Sacasa and included various national artists of the band “La Cegua” and the pictorial work of the artist Robert Barberena de la Rocha: The aim of this interdisciplinary event was upgrading the consciousness for the environmental problems in Granada, especially the Lake of Nicaragua.
Sundry concerts of the singer Osiris Rodriguez attended by friendly musicians also were a constant part of the musical events in 2010.
Other mentionable concerts are: the band “Colibrí y Mariona” consisting of young musicians in Granada, the concert of children of the project „Ritmo en los Barrios” and the annual „Festival de Música Granadina”, organized by AGRAMCAS, the association of local musicians in Granada.
Visual Arts
The most important event of visual arts was the realization of the VII Festival Fusión Artes Visuales 2010 which presented about 60 national and international artists of different styles of art and themes in one exposition. This exhibition was inaugurated ceremonially the 25th of November and could be visited until the 27th of December.
In January the exposition of the French artist Norbert Bertrand Barbe could take place with the support of „Instituto Nicaragüense de Cultura Hispánica” and „Embajada de España (AECID)”.
To generate earnings for the annual street festival “El Berrinche Ambiental” which was dedicated to the environment, donated works of different artists in Granada were sold at an auction.
In the following months, various exhibitions were realized, for example the joint exposition of the artist Juan Elí Rodríguez and Tobías L. Crickmar.
The foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos also hosted the touring exhibition of the photo editors of the newspaper “El Nuevo Diario” and organized a solo exhibition for the artist Wesley Acuña from Costa Rica.
Representation of the literature
The reading of the works of the Nicaraguan author Alejandro Bravo was one of the outstanding literary events in 2010.
Under the patronage of „Universidad del Valle”, the poetic reading with the title “Cantos al Amor y Versos al Óleo” of Danilo Abud and William Grysbi could be realised in March.
Furthermore the conference „Cervantes y El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha” was offered by the professor Ronald Puerto Lazo under the patronage of INCH and AECID.
The poetic reading of Dr. Guillermo Menocal also should be mentioned as the part of the literary events.
The presentation of the books “Escritos filosóficos y políticos” from Dr. Alejandro Serrano Caldera and the conference “Las primeras biografías de Rubén Darío” of Dr. Noel Rivas Bravo, professor of the University in Sevilla upgraded the literary offer in 2010.
Versatile stagecraft
The year 2010 was inaugurated with the street festival “El Berrinche Ambiental”: theater groups, actors and acrobats from Nicaragua and Central America realized different shows in the main streets of Granada. Concentrated on „Plaza de los Leones” magic, skills and happiness could be enjoyed by the public. The aim of this annual festival was upgrading the environmental consciousness and was organized by the „Escuela de Comedia y el Mimo” in Granada with the support of the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos.
In March, the school of scenic arts of the foundation organized a ceremonial event in the occasion of the International day of Theater – supported by „Instituto Nicaragüense de Cultura Hispánica” and „Embajada de España (AECID)”.
In September, the group „Calmecag-Tlaloc” from Estelí performed an incredible combination of theater, dance and music – especially outstanding because of the social character of this play.
The collective „Poesía en Construcción-Al Margen” presented a triptych of poetry, theater and dance with the title “Los que nos somos famosos”.
Other mentionable cultural activities
Nicaraguan folklore dances could be admired at the „VI Festival Internacional de Poesía” during the amazing performance of „Ballet Folklórico Nacional de Ronald Abud”.
Mentionable are as well the presentation of the well-known „Ballet Folklórico Tepenahualt” and the performance of the „Academia de Danza Folklórica Nicaraocalli” of the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos.
Another highlight was the 16th realization of the „Festival International de Danza Contemporánea” in August – several Central American and Mexican dancing chorus participated in this outstanding event.
Other interesting cultural activities were the performance of the German circus „Circo Radelito” in October, the presentation of Teatro Foro “A las puertas de la vida” organized by the actress Alicia Pilarte and the theater „Justo Rufino Garay”, the presentation of the photographic work „Memoria de las cenizas” of the french artist Silvian Senescal, the exposition on the day „Día Mundial del Bambú” as well as different realized conferences, for example „Diabetes, prevention and treatment”, “La época precolombina, la conquista y resistencia indígena” and “Época colonial y la fundación de Granada”.
The variety of the cultural offer and the amount of the realized events in the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos in 2010 show the importance for the cultural development in Granada and Nicaragua.
