The School has fourteen teachers employed on a regular basis. Guest tutors and renowned visiting musicians periodically work with the advanced students in master classes.
The organisation differs considerably from the usual music schools in Northern America or Europe. There they can assist to classes various times and afterwards practice at home. Here they assist to the classes as well, but also come to practice and play together with others. As most of the families can’t afford a proper instrument for their children, the music school provides instruments.
The Music Academy of the Casa de los Tres Mundos has been working successfully for more than ten years now. Every year its educational program is reaching more and more children and young people of all social classes. The Music Academy has approximately 200 pupils. Particularly proud is the institution of the young David Salomón, who nowadays studies trumpet in Germany and receives international engagements.
In the year 2001 the Music School was awarded for its work by the UNESCO.
The vision for the next years is to concentrate on the formation of musicians with a professional profile and a solid academic preparation apart from the social-cultural offer.
They will be educated in the fields of composition, orchestral direction, the instrumental and vocal play of concert music. This way we want to build a new generation of professional artists who can cope as musicians or teachers of the different levels of general and artistic education.
The Music School was founded in 1992. In this time Dietmar Schönherr and Jeunesses Musicals Germany made an invitation for five musicians of the professional wind-orchestra in Münster, Germany to come to Nicaragua.
On their visit they didn’t only play the planned concert in the casa de los Tres Mundos, but as well in the poorer districts of Granada. When they noticed the interest of the people they started to establish superior classes and later as well the training of musicians and professors from different parts of the country, together with musicians of the “Orquesta Nacional de Nicaragua”.
From 1994 to 1999 the school develops under the direction of Ramón Rodriguez, director of the Camerata Bach in Nicaragua at this time, offering as a technical and instrumental preparation classes in woodwind and brass wind instruments.
In the year 2000 the school continues its plan of improvement under the direction of the Spanish hornist Santiago Martí. He implements as a new faculty the string instruments and starts with guitar lessons.
From 2004 until today the school develops under the direction of the master Kevin Gutiérrez. He is tenor and is specialized in child education, composition and the direction of choir and orchestra. With him the school enters a process of changes: approximating the institution to a conservatory he implements a plan of perfection and complexity. Gutiérrez starts classes of chamber music, orchestration, band and new modalities, such as the implementation of lyric singing. Moreover he creates a music school with a great musical variety for all levels of age, which until now exists unique in Nicaragua, comparable to a conservatory.
