The Radio Volcán is a free community radio station in Granada on the frequency 102.9 FM. It was founded by the Austrians Ulrich Salamun and Sabine Khalil on the 21st of febuary in 2006 and today is part of the Foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos. The Radio Volcán broadcasts its signal to the entire population and meanwhile is even disposable on internet.
The idea of the station was to found a transmitter, which the population could use to publish their needs, thoughts and advices and with which the adolescents can learn the handling of a radio station. The radio is accessible to young people of all social levels, who use it in great extent. “Last year we worked and achieved a lot with our new directory. We do not only named a new director – Silvio Ant. Jaime Marenco – who is producer and technical director as well, but reached our greatest aim: to be represented on the internet.
Apart from that we made the first steps to unite with other community radio stations.” (Claudia Marenco) The Radio Volcán consists of a little, responsible, young Team. The following projects will be to organize an electric generator to tide over the regular loss of power and to buy an “enlace”, to always be able to inform about the actual news. Moreover a transportation means is supposed to be buyed.
