In April 2007 a salesoriented agricultural production in the rural development project Malacatoya – Los Angeles started with the raising of a banana-plantation. Now, one year later, the farmers could bring in the first harvest successfully and full of pride. Ten thousands bananas are sold to distributors from Managua and in addition to retailers in the village. The hard work and the affectionate, intensive care of the banana plants were worth the effort.
The agriculture project in Malacatoya helps to improve the basic conditions in the village. The plantation establish – besides the eco paper manufactury and the beekeeping project – jobs, a regulary income and with it a safer future for many inhabitants.
For the eco paper manufactury the success of the banana plantation means an improvement too: The vegetable fibers of the banana plants are very useful. So far such fibers have to be transported to Malacatoya. In the future this should not be necessary because the manufactury will use fibers primarily from own production.
