Rarely there has been a filming, showing us such a brutal reality on the subject of the capture of lobster like the documentary “My Village, My Lobster”, whose successful Nicaragua- premiere took place last Friday (April 13th) in the foundation Casa de los Tres Mundos.
“The interest, to make this documentary arose while I was doing my diving license and I heard of a fisherman who has become a victim of the Decompression sickness”, told us Brad Allgood, producer and author of this documentary
Some time later he got to know Joshua Wolff (the director) and they shared the same idea and determination, therefore they decided to investigate together on this topic and started working on this documentary.
“My Village, My Lobster”, is about the dangerous situation which are facing many Miskito-men, who work in the sector of the Lobster capturing on the Caribbean Coast in Nicaragua and who suffer from the medical consequences because they neither are equipped with the necessary equipment nor are given the basic conditions for this purpose.
„The objective of our documentary is to raise awareness, among the public as well as among the to the lobster industry related institutions, in order to achieve that new laws and norms, which protect the workers health, are standardized, because it is a general health problem”, explained Allgood.
What has made the premiere also very special, was the presence of the director Joshua Wolff, the producer Brad Allgood and the composer Ben Backus, because the initiated a discussion with the audience, which was really interested and concerned about this topic, after the screening.
The creators hope that other cultural centers are likewise interested showing this documentary in their facilities.
