The Casa de los Tres Mundos opened last Friday (October 21) the exhibition “CODICES MAYA Y ECOPAPEL” of the artist Tony Peralta. The exhibition shows pictures with thoroughly elaborated Maya Codices on Eco-paper – the recycled paper is with its own texture and the thereon painted gaudy and unique colours and shapes like a homage to the culture of the Maya.
According to the artist Peralta, he did not want to make this exhibition in order to decode the symbols of this said culture, but rather to demonstrate the beauty of their signs, their vivid colours and shapes.
Furthermore he wanted to draw the attention to the significance of the work, the Maya had accomplished in this field; finally they had been the pioneers in manufacturing paper in America. “Above all it is an exhibition, which attempts to be educational as well as artistically valuable” , the artist said.
The teacher Tony Peralta is a member of the artist group of the Casa de los Tres Mundos and he himself has taught in the course of the last twenty years of his artistic career numerous young artists.
The exhibition remains open till the 1st of November. You can visit it every day from 8 AM to 5:30 PM.
