The Fundación Casa de los Tres Mundos as a cultural center is always interested in promoting projects and innovations that adapt country and population to the current standards of technological development of the 21st century, to be prepared for the digital future and the challenges posed.
In this context, the project “Cine Documental” in cooperation with the visiting professors Finnja Willner and Evelina Winkler from Germany was launched. One guideline of their foundation Cinetaya is: “A country without documentary film is like a family without a photo album” (Patricio Guzmán). In this sense, the documentalists held two comprehensive workshops in our Casa Tres Mundos. The first one took place from August to November 2015, the second in the same composition in September 2016. Besides establishing a solid theoretical basis on the different stages of documentary production, the 15 participants were able to put their theoretical knowledge directly into practice. Thus they slipped into the role of a film director, screenwriter, cinematographer or editor; and gained in this way new insights into the colonial city of Granada with its various facets and inhabitants.
During the course they created a series of successful short films, which lead viewers to reflect on interesting aspects and new realities. At the end of each course there was a presentation in the auditorium of C3M, which was followed by a panel discussion with the young producers on opinions, ideas and experiences. In addition to the dynamics of the group and the exchange between people with different histories and backgrounds, the aspired critical (and creative!) approach to the media was appreciated, supported, among others, by Nicaraguan documentary filmmaker Gabriel Serra (Oscar nominee 2014) and the Briton Dominic Allan.
Full of enthusiasm, we are still enjoying the fruits of success; and we appreciate the support of all who have made it possible.
